SHOP OWNER DELIVERS GOODWILL ALONG WITH GIFT BASKETS

When Shirley Brown opened The Perfect Gift at the Port two years ago, she vowed she would provide more than just gift baskets to cruise passengers. She would provide service above and beyond the call of duty to those customers who find themselves away from home and in need of emergency help. So she give them all her cell phone number to call "just in case".

As a result, she and her husband have provided jump starts for batteries and have delivered stranded passengers to their ships numerous times. But recently the were called upon to do quite a bit more than that. A distraught woman called them at 7 a.m. when she and her husband discovered that their $70,000 truck had been destroyed by vandals in the parking lot of their motel. So the Browns towed the truck to their home, delivered the passengers to the ship and, during the seven days the vacationers were away, worked with the insurance company to have the truck completely restored and ready for the return trip. And there was no charge for their help, of course.

Now that's service that makes Port Canaveral more than Florida's "Fun Port" It makes it a Port with a heart, as well.
